How Do You Prepare for Changes in Your Life?

How Do You Prepare for Changes in Your Life?

You can change anything you want in your life. With the right processes, tools, mindset, and habit anything is possible!

1.Assess where you are right now and create a manageable plan

If one of your goals is to be healthy, define health to you in measurable steps and then see where you are right now. So for me, my goal is to eat 10 servings of fruits & veggies per day, move my body at least 30 min, take a multivitamin, floss once per day, etc. When I first started, I was only moving my body a few times per week and eating maybe 4 servings of fruits & veggies so I made a plan to consciously increase that over time.

  1. Make Peace With Your Past

Once you know where you are currently, make peace with it. Know that you did the best you had with the tools you had at the time. Forgive yourself for anything you feel you should have done better or for not being where you want to be right now. Know that anyone in your situation would be exactly where you are right now and you are ready to learn new ways of being.

  1. Go For The Long Haul

Remind yourself that these changes are a new way to live your life, so they must be things that you can do for the rest of your life. If you hate running, don’t make running a part of your changes… do yoga, dance, take a boxing class, anything that you do like and will be something you will enjoy doing for the long haul.

  1. Become Aware of Triggers and Behaviors You Do Now

Start becoming aware of the things you are doing currently that trigger the behaviors you don’t like. So maybe when you are stressed out you seek distraction by going shopping and spending a ton of money, instead of investing it. Start to notice your thoughts and beliefs before you get to the point of getting in the car to go shopping. Once you are aware of the triggers, do something else (like go for a walk) so you don’t get in the car.

  1. Start Tracking What You Are Currently Doing

Now that you know where you are currently, where you want to go, and are more aware of your own behaviors and triggers for those things you are currently doing and want to change, it’s time to start researching & tracking. Start journaling daily your thoughts, emotions, and beliefs. Tracking is important because it’ll bring light to the areas of your life that need more focus. A tracking sheet like the one on this page: Free Stuff – Rich Girls Inc is very helpful.

You may have some fears about not being able to make the changes you want, so write all of those out and love yourself for being brave enough to get really honest with yourself about where you are and why. Seek the truth behind where you are right now and why you want to change. What happens if you don’t change these things?

  1. Find a coach or mentor

If possible, find someone who has the EXACT results you want in your life and ask them how they did it… or read their books, watch their videos, etc. Make sure you only get advice from people who have what EXACTLY you want. If you want a body like a yogi don’t ask a weightlifter for advice, etc.

Also, people love to tell you how to live your life when they aren’t even close to having the life you would want. Maybe you’ve tried to follow these people’s advice and you didn’t get the results you wanted… but that was because THEY didn’t have the results you wanted, either. Guard your mind from these people. Do your research and be very selective of who you listen to.

  1. Set Yourself Up For Success

Now that you’ve tracked your changes for a few weeks, it’s time to set up your routines. What are you going to do EVERY SINGLE DAY to create these changes? Some days you’re just not going to “feel” like staying on track. Every once in awhile this is ok… but if it’s more than 3 days, it’s time to get back on track. What are you going to do to make sure you stay on track daily? How can you make it fun and easy to make these changes?

The most important thing is to be loving and patient with yourself. Change can be challenging, even it is something we really want. Do your best every day and if you fall off track, just get up and get back to it. If it starts to seem overwhelming, back it up and just do one step per day instead of 10 things at once. You got this!
